Basking Shark
Habitat: mostly water surface (summer), dive to about 2953 feet (winter)
Location: North and South Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean Sea, North and South Pacific Ocean, the Sea of Japan, off southern Australia and around New Zealand
Size: 23-32 feet (maximum recorded: 40 feet)
Description: Basking sharks are the second largest fish in the world. The nose of the shark is cone-shaped, and their are gills extending completely around the head. They have a greyish brown colors, and these sharks have numerous small teeth.
Diet: filter-feeders
Feeding Habits: remain near the surface with their mouth open-wide to collect plankton (summer), feed at greater depths (winter)
